PHIL
Phil is an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer. He discovered the benefits of personal training first hand after sustaining a serious back injury in high school. A former defensive back, Phil was hospitalized after an injury which ruptured two discs in his spine. Through targeted exercise he was able to correct his back issues and lead an active, healthy lifestyle. "For the past 15 years, the spine’s interaction with body movement and exercise has been at the core of my personal training methods. I specialize in helping clients achieve new levels of fitness by strengthening the core and back." Phil has also acquired two years of study in Physical Therapy and H.I.V./AIDS. Below, Phil demonstates one of his favorite back exercises, the bodyweight row. Bodyweight rows are great overall back  exercise because they recruit most of the muscles of the back including the often neglected upper back muscles, core stabilization, and functional strength to execute. Lie on back grabbing a bar or handles above chest

Begin to pull body up towards bar/handles

Finish with arms bent at least 90 degrees.
